Our Background
The Story behind TARAAHAMO
Rahma's Urgent Journey
In 2008, a trip to Ethiopia's Ogaden region unfolded a compelling story behind Taraahamo. The purpose was to visit my cousin's daughter, Rahma, who had suffered severe injuries in an accident. Arriving in the village of Hamaro, I found Rahma in a dire state, prompting a swift decision to take her to Addis Ababa for urgent medical attention in Turkey.
A Glimpse into Nomadic Life
However, the charity's origin goes beyond Rahma's ordeal. The journey from Rahma's village to Addis Ababa exposed me to the nomadic life of communities, relying on cattle, especially camels, to settle in areas with water and plants.
Encounter with Khadra
A pivotal moment occurred when we encountered a lone woman with a sitting camel in the middle of the road. Uncommon for women to handle camels, we discovered the lady, Khadra, was the sole survivor of her family, owning only an old, sick camel. Society, structured around tribe and clan ties, had left her without support.
Limited Assistance, Lingering Thoughts
Despite our rushed journey, we offered Khadra temporary assistance and left her ailing camel behind. This encounter left me contemplating the plight of those without financial, familial, or societal support.
The Birth of Taraahamo
Khadra's story inspired the establishment of Taraahamo, a charity aimed at aiding individuals lacking a support system. The name, "to have mercy on each other," underscores the mission to promote compassion irrespective of societal distinctions.
Expanding Outreach and Establishing TARAAHAMO
Motivated by Khadra's story, I took the initiative to organize helping groups and gather donations. Initially focused on the Ogaden region, my efforts expanded to encompass vulnerable communities in Ethiopia, Somalia, and Kenya. However, my work relied solely on the support of family and friends.
We achieved remarkable milestones with the generous individuals who donated and assisted me. As we delved deeper into vulnerable societies, it became evident that the need for help was greater than we initially anticipated. This realization prompted the establishment of TARAAHAMO.
A Call for Global Support
With TARAAHAMO, we aspire to garner support from compassionate individuals worldwide. We aim to extend aid and provide hope to those who need it most. We believe that by reaching more kind-hearted people globally, we can amplify our impact and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing adversity. Your support is crucial in helping us continue this important work.
